Abstract

178,211. Greeves, Ltd., J. & T. M., and Eves, R. V. Jan. 17, 1921. Spindle apparatus; thread guides; roller heads; anti. ballooning arrangements. - In an arrangement in which the flyer is provided at the top with a self threading thread-eye, the thread-eye is in the form of a hollow cone d, Fig. 4<a>, slotted at one side and provided with a removable steel bush d' slotted at d<2> to correspond with the cone. The rollers a, A, b, B, Fig. 1, are arranged so that the thread passes in a straight line from the nip of the rollers to the thread-eye. A plate F replaces the usual thread guide plate and is provided with holes f<1> eccentric to the axis of the spindle C to allow the thread to be pressed to one side to engage the thread-eye. Wires g<1>, Fig. 3, secured to a hinged plate G may replace the plate F. According to the Provisional Specification a projection, hook, &c. may be attached to the spindle or flyer, and the arms of the latter may be channelled to accommodate the thread. A ring spindle has a hook &c. mounted on the top. The thread engages an arm &c. carried by the hook to cause it to lag behind the spindle. Metal partitions may be carried by the thread plate to prevent ballooning. The traverse rod may be fixed and the roller beam traversed to distribute the wear over the rollers.
