Regulating-switches; latching.-In a combined resistance and cut-out, the resistance included in circuit is determined by a slide g mounted on a bar e of magnetic material and carrying an electromagnet h, the slide being held in position by magnetic attraction as long as the current retains its value, but falling to break circuit when the current fails. Brushes i, i<1> on the slide move over contact studs d, d<1> connected to the coils b by tappings. The coils b are tubular to assist dissipation of heat, and may also be of successively increasing cross-section from the lower end upwards. A handle and guard-plate j is mounted on the slide.
