Abstract

177,813. Ivison, J., and Stead, R. May 26,1921. Coal-cutting machines.-In a coal-cutting machine, a cutter bar 7 is driven by a motor 16 which, by chain gearing 17 or a train of wheels, drives the screw conveyer supported parallel to the cutter bar in a casing 2 of substantially the same depth as the cut; the casing has a bevelled lip 9 forming a scoop, a front opening 3 exposing the conveyer to the cuttings and a rear opening 4 for discharging the cuttings on to a shoct 10, the floor or the truck &c. 8. The screw conveyer may be longitudinally or pivotally movable independently of the cutter bar so as to permit commencement of a cut.
