Abstract
177,509. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. March 23, 1921, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Testing balance of rotary apparatus.-Relates to apparatus of the kind in which a carrier is supported by two coaxial knife-edge bearings and is provided with a support for the part to be tested which permits rotation of this part about an axis intersecting at right-angles the axis of the knife-edges, and consists in the. particularconstruction of the carrier. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a U-shaped carrier B rests by means of knife-edges b<1>, b<2> on a frame A. The cross member connecting the legs of the carrier is fitted with a support b<3> to receive a bush D which in turn receives the part C to be tested, the axis about which the part C turns being thus in the central plane of the carrier passing through the axis of the knife-edges and at rightangles to the axis of the knife-edges. Pointers b<4>, b<5>, b<7> are provided in this plane as shown, while a fourth pointer b<6> displaced 90‹ from the former pointers is also provided. In use, the part C is moved about the axis of the support b<3> until there is no deflexion of the pointer b<7> from zero on the scale a<3>. The centre of gravity of the body C is then in the plane of the pointers b<4>, b<5>, b<7> and knifeedge axis. Lines are marked on the body opposite the pointers b<4>, b<5>. The body is next moved until one of these lines coincides with the pointer b<6> and weights are added until the pointer b<7> again reads zero. In a modification suitable for use with a body having a projecting journal at each end, the member connecting the legs of the frame B is provided with a step bearing for one end of the body, the other end being guided in a second U-frame secured to the first.
