Abstract

Valves fitted with independently actuated supplementary valves.-The seating 15 for a screwdown valve 33 is provided in a longitudinally movable sleeve 10 which is adapted to form a closure either above or below the usual partition 6 in the valve casing. Fluid flow may thus be cut off while the screw-down valve is removed for repairs. The partition is provided with bevelled seatings 8, 9 above and below, which co-operate with closure surfaces 11, 12 on the sleeve 10. The sleeve is closed at the lower end and provided with a partition 13 having a central aperture 14 provided with a raised seating 15. Lateral apertures 16, 17 are provided for the passage of fluid through the sleeve. The sleeve is made in two portions which are screwed together for convenience in assembling, and the part 21 is formed separately from the casing 1. The upper end of the sleeve is screwed to receive a plug 26, which is secured by a screw 27. This screw is provided with a flattened portion, so that by a partial unscrewing, pressure fluid may be released from the casing when the valve is dis-assembled. The main valve spindle 31 is secured to the valve head 33 by a screwed sleeve 38 which permits relative rotation. When the main valve is to be removed for repairs, the sleeve 10 is unscrewed until the closure surface 11. engages with the seating 9. Packing 24, 39 is provided to maintain tightness around the sleeve and vaive spindle respectively.
