Abstract

176,217. Millard, R. E. Jan. 24, 1921. Tongs.-A gripping-tool for domestic purposes comprises pairs of crossed levers pivoted together similar to lazy-tongs and formed at their free ends to provide two pairs of gripping jaws. As shown two pairs of levers a, b, f, g are connected together by the pivots c, d, e, h. The levers f, g are twisted and bent to form gripping-jaws m adapted to grip plates or similar articles, while the levers a, b are curved and provided with concave members j adapted to grip basins or other curved articles. To improve the grip, the members j may be roughened or provided with serrations or teeth and the jaws m, n faced with felt. A spring to hold the jaws normally open may connect the pivots h, and c.
