Couplings automatic.-Relates to automatic couplings as described in the parent Specification, in which the coupler heads are maintained in close engagement by means of a wedge-shaped member on the locking-bar which automatically moves into deeper engagement with the disc hook as wear occurs, and consists mainly in means whereby the gravity latch which retains the locking-bar in its set position for automatic coupling, is lifted by the locking-bar by a constant amount independent of the extent of the inward movement of the bar and has a terminal extension adapted to prevent the locking-bar from riding over the latch. The gear for retaining the locking-bar in the withdrawn position is also modified. The locking-bar 7, Fig. 2, has the wedge portion 10 offset, of helical formation, and of uniform thickness, and it engages with a corresponding helical surface on the disc hook 5. The gravity latch 18, which is raised by the wedge, has a terminal extension 20 to prevent the locking-bar from riding over it on engagement. The locking-bar 7, Fig. 8, is withdrawn by means of the pivoted screw 28 which is forced against the side 2 of the coupler head when the handle 28 is raised, or in the modification shown in Fig. 9, a toothed segment 34 mounted eccentrically in an eye 31 at the end of the locking-bar may engage with a projection 35 on the coupler head so that when the handle 29 is half turned the locking-bar is withdrawn.
