Abstract
161,221. Nick, E. W. Nov. 21, 1919. Feed-water, supplying and controlling. - The roll or pitch of a ship is utilized to impart con. trol movement to the water regulation means, to prevent the latter being effected by the rolling, by fitting a valve 12 operated by an adjustable pendulum 15 in the water connection 3 to the regulator. This regulator preferably consists of the expansion tube 1 which actuates the bell crank ;ever 8, pivoted at 9, and operating the feed valve 16. The pipe 3 may also be fitted with a pivoted flap valve 21, Fig 4, a diaphragm, with a central hole, on an adjustable equivalent comprising the valve 26, Fig. 7, or a frictional retarder in the form of a spiral coil, the purpose of these fittings being to prevent surges in the boiler being communicated to the regulator. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the pendulum 27 is supported at 28 by a ball-race, and is connected by a system of levers 30, 29 and dash-pot 31 to the valve 33 in the feed pipe, the valve being normally held open by the spring 34.
