Description

(54) CARD FOR THE DISPLAY OF ARTICLES (71) We, ALLEN DAVIES & COMPANY LIMITED, of Knapps Lane, St. George, Bristol, BS5 7UN, a British Company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following state ment:--- This invention relates to a card for the display of articles, and is a Patent of Addition to Patent 1 487 365.
Small articles are often displayed for sale on a card to which they are removably attached, such method of display being particularly suitable for light bagged articles.
According to this invention there is provided a display card and a set of bagged articles attached thereto, the said card having a plurality of tongues formed by cuts within the body of the card, the said tongues being spaced apart from each other and each tongue having a pointed tip facing downwards, said bags being of the kind made of soft pliable material and having elongate neck portions, each with its neck portion engaged between a said tongue and the adjacent region of the rest of the card, the end of the neck portion lying at the back of the card. Preferably the tongues are spade shaped.
One form of card is illustrated in the drawing filed herewith, wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective front view of a card showing the bag in position, Figure 2 is a front view of one tongue on a card, and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the same tongue viewed from the back with one bag in position.
Referring to the drawing, the card comprises a sheet 2 of cardboard with rows of spade shaped tongues 4. Each tongue 4 is defined by a cut 6 and has a pointed tip 8. The ends of the cut 6 are joined by a notional line or bend 10 which defines the root of the tongue. The card 2 has a plain top area 12 with a hanging hole 14.
The articles to be displayed, in the case described, are "lollies" placed in bags 16 of soft pliable plastics material secured with metal ties 18 near the top so as to leave an elongate neck portion 20 beyond the tie 18.
The card is filled from the front by pushing the neck portion 20 of each bag through a bent back tongue 4, the tongues 4 being then pushed back towards the rest of the card so that each neck portion 20 is engaged between the pointed lower end 8 of a tongue and the rest of the card.
In the example described the tongues are 1" long from root to tip and 1" wide at the root. It must be understood however that these dimensions are arbitrary and other shapes of tongue are possible.
The term elongate neck used in the specification and claims is intended to mean that there is a length of bag beyond the bagged article at one end of the bag the said length being capable of forming an elongate neck.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A display card and a set of bagged articles attached thereto, the said card having a plurality of tongues formed by cuts within the body of the card, the said tongues being spaced apart from each other and each tongue having a pointed tip facing downwards, said bags being of the kind made of soft pliable material and having elongate neck portions, each with its neck portion engaged between a said tongue and the adjacent region of th rest of the card, the end of the neck portion lying at the back oi the card.
2. A card and set of bagged articles according to claim 1 wherein each tongue is at least as long as it is wide at the root.
3. A card and set of bagged articles according to claim 2 wherein the tongues are spade shaped.
4. A card and set of bagged articles on the card substantially as described with reference to the drawing.
