Abstract

168,255. Prince, A. Sept. 13, 1920. Pneumatically-operated fastenings; fastenings operated mechanically from a distance. -The spring bolt a of a railway carriage door is operated through a Bowden wire c by a piston e in a cylinder f to which steam or compressed air may be admitted at g; or the cylinders are connected with the air or vacuum brakes in such a manner that the doors are automatically locked when the train is in motion with the brakes released. The piston e may also be pulled back by a handle m and may be held in the unlocking position by a stop fitted into a slot l in the stem h of the handle when this slot is outside the cylinder. A spring i returns the piston to the locking position. Specifications 14333/90, 2385/91, and 1827/05 are referred to.
