Abstract
167,545. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., and Ralph, G. J. May 5, 1920. Induction and resistance furnaces.- A heating chamber, provided with a primary coil 5 inducing heating currents in the chamber wall or in the articles, is rotated on an approximately horizontal axis, to intermix the articles. In one arrangement, the chamber wall 2 is a cylinder of iron or steel, lagged with heatinsulating material 4, and provided with a door at one or each end. The chamber rotates on rollers 6, the asbestos-insulated coil 5 being stationary. In another arrangement, the coil is wound on heat-insulation on a chamber carried by trunnions at right-angles to its geometrical axis; one trunnion carries a driving-wheel and the other two slip rings. Current is regulated by an auto-transformer. The furnaces may be used for tempering, coating. &c.
