Abstract
167,395. Birchall, J. Aug. 17, 1920. Tools for finishing the soles and heels of boots and shoes comprises a core a around which is wrapped sand-paper or other abrasive sheet d, a layer of soft material, for example, felt, being interposed between the core and the sand-paper. The abrasive covering is held in place by a bar b which is placed over the joint of the covering, the bent ends of the bar entering reeesses a<2> in the ends of the core, and being retained in position by a rod c passing through a hole b<1> in one bent end of the bar, through a hole a<3> extending axially of the core, and screwing into a tapped hole b<2> in the other bent end of the bar. The rod may have a handle part c<1> and may screw into both of the holes b<1>, b<2>; or a pin may be passed through the projecting end of the rod, neither of the holes being topped. The rod may also be held by a nut screwing on the end c<2> of the rod. The sandpaper is held in position, during assembly of the tool, by pins h. According to the Provisional Specification, the rod may be wedged into the bent end of the bar, or may be secured by a split pin.
