Sliding-jaw wrenches; jaw faces; handles.-A spanner having one closed apertured end and one open jawed end adjustable to various sizes by means of screw-and-nut adjustment devices assembled between a pair of plates secured by rivets or screws is constructed with strengthening-plates b, c arranged between the side plates a, a T-shaped gripping face c<1> being formed on the plate c, this plate coacting with a sliding jaw d of H-section which slides between the pistes a. This jaw is actuated by a nut g and screw f arranged in longitudinal swellings a<4> in the side plates, which are slotted at a<5> to permit operation of the nut g. The closed end a<3> of the spanner ccntains a sliding jaw e<1> also operated by the nut g, and this coacts with the fixed end of the aperture a<3> formed by the three assembled plates.
