Abstract
165,091. Kohler, C. June 21, 1920, [Convention date]. Railway locomotives, steam.-A locomotive is fitted a rotary engine which drives through reduction gearing and crank mechanism and is placed in front of and beneath the boiler. The exhaust is condensed, the cooling water of the condenser being recooled by a cooler on the tender comprising a channel across which the water drops, a current of air, generated by the motion of the locomotive, passing through the channel. The turbine 3 drives a crank shaft 10 through reduction gearing, the drive being transmitted by a crank 11 and rod 12 to the coupled driving wheels 4. The exhaust is led to the condenser 14, which is arranged centrally beneath the boiler, by symmetrical pipes 15. The cooling water is circulated by means of a pump 21 driven by an auxiliary turbine 22 and is recooled by a cooling device on the tender comprising a tubular member 17 across which the water falls in a rain-lilze distribution and is collected in a tank 25. The cooler 17 is arranged at a distance 19<1> behind the cab but less than the internal height of the cooler.
