Abstract

164,526. Bolton, R. A. R. March 16, 1920. Wire and ribbon resistances, cored.-A resistance comprises coiled strips a, b, c spaced apart axially as shown in plan in Fig. 1 and elevation in Fig. 2 and connected in series by inner and outer conducting tubes h, f, g. These tubes serve to reduce the reactance, which may be further reduced by embedding a conducting ring e in each coil. The ends of the coils on both sides of the rings e are connected to the rings. The coils are mounted on a tubular support d, the two upper coils having a common external ring g and the two lower coils a common internal ring f. Terminals k, m are attached to the rings. In a modification, a number of coils spaced apart axially are supported by conducting tubes or rods connected by porcelain members, intermediate and outer metal rings being employed as shown in Fig. 2.
