Abstract
164,175. General Electric Co., Ltd., Gossling, B. S., and Bartlett, A. C. March 19, 1920. Vacuum tubes. - The space current emanating from different sections of a thermionic valve filament to the usual electrodes is modified bv control electrodes. In the three - electrode valve shown, the control electrodes are in the form of cylindrical caps g<1>, g<2>, of sheet metal surrounding the ends of the filament a, and supported by metal strips h<1>, h<2> on the filament leading-in wires b<1>, b<2>, so that the caps are maintained at the same potentials as the ends of the filament. The cap at the positive end of the filament causes this section to saturate earlier, and the cap at the negative end retards saturation, and reduces the current in the grid circuit. A cylindrical anode c and a helical grid e are mounted around the middle portion of the filament.
