Abstract

1536175 Tundishes BRITISH STEEL CORP 21 Oct 1977 [21 Oct 1976] 43768/76 Heading F4B A refractory lined tundish, particularly for continuous casting, has refractory baffles 7 projecting inwardly from the walls, at least around the impact area of molten metal from a filling tube 8, at a level below the metal/slag interface in operation. This reduces turbulence and entrainment of impurities from the pouring outlet 9. The baffles 7 may extend all round the tundish or they may extend only as far as indicated at 12. A baffle 13 may project upwardly from the tundish floor between the inlet 8 and the outlet 9.
