Abstract
1535180 Electroslag refining; continuous casting ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Feb 1976 [21 Feb 1975] 7314/75 Heading B3F At least one flexible conductor 9 maintains electrical contact between the bottom (flange) 4 of an electroslag mould 1 and a base plate 3 from which it is separated (as shown) as the ingot 6 grows longer, to complete a circuit 22 with a consumable electrode 14, the plate 3 and mould wall 2 and a conductor 20 connected, as by clamp 21, to the wall top. A thin layer 17 of the slag 15 solidifies and separates the ingot 6 and mould wall 2. Conductors 9, asbestos covered and restrained from outward movement by a surrounding wall 13, are connected at their ends to clamps 8 and 10 secured around the base plate 3 and a ring 12 secured to the mould flange 4. The ring 12 is detached from the flange 4 when the mould 1 has been raised, or the plate 3 lowered, to the full extent during casting.
