Abstract
1534784 Slide-valve plate K D N KEARNEY (P Van den Speulhof) 27 June 1977 [2 June 1976 7 June 1976] 22708/76 and 23473/76 Headings C1H and C1J A part such as a slide-valve plate or a baseplate of a slide-valve closure means on containers containing molten metal is made of a hydraulically setting high-alumina refractory concrete having a compression strength when cold, measured on the dried crude product, of at least 400 kp/cm<SP>2</SP>, rising to at least 700 kp/cm<SP>2</SP> (when cold) after firing at 1400‹ C., and a dimensional stability at 1400‹ C. of at most Œ0À2%. The refractory concrete contains corundum and active alumina as aggregates, an alumina cement containing less than 22% lime and if required, a thinning agent, the composition being at least 96% by wt. Al 2 O 3 , less than 3% by wt. CaO and less than 0.5% by wt. SiO 2 . Up to 5% by wt. of the aggregates may be replaced by a spinelforming substance (preferably MgO), and up to 5% by wt. of the aggregates may be replaced by carbon black pitch or graphite, and up to 7% by wt. of the aggregates may be replaced by chromium oxide.
