Abstract

1534161 Drying fibrous webs AKZO NV 9 July 1976 28715/76 Heading F4G A method of drying a wet fibrous web 12, e.g. paper pulp, which involves passing the web on a felt 3 through two nips 10, 11 formed between a drying cylinder 9 and two press rollers 4, 5, comprises cooling the felt, e.g. by a cold water spray 8, at a location intermediate the nips 10, 11 to condense water vapour in the felt, and removing the condensate from the felt by pressing at 6, 7 still intermediate the nips 10, 11. The nip 6, 7 may be provided by rollers, as shown, and may include a suction box 7<SP>1</SP>, or by a flat plate press or a grooved press.
