Abstract
1533860 Reciprocating dynamo-electromagnetic machines D J LAW D G HASELL & D W GATEHOUSE 28 May 1976 [28 May 1975] 23246/75 Heading H2A A shaft 13 is rotated between two limit positions by magnetic attraction/repulsion between at least one pole 5, 6 carried on an arm 11 attached to the shaft 13, and two sets of poles 7, 9 ; 8, 10 on either side of the shaft. As shown, four electromagnets 1-4 are selectively energized to produce the poles 7-10 of requisite polarity to attract/repel a permanent magnet (30), Fig. 2 (not shown) received between flanges at one end of the arm 11, the other end of which 11c may carry a counterweight. The limit positions are defined by rectangular electromagnet pole-pieces 1c-4c, which have resilient inserts 32, and the respective energizing circuits are made/broken by an arm 61 on the shaft co-operating with inductive switches 60, 62. The poles 7-10 may alternatively be provided by a permanent magnet, the poles 5, 6 by an electromagnet. As shown, the shaft 13 carries a grooved platform 16 forming part of a feed line 40 for objects 25, the orientation of which is sensed optically 50 to initiate rotation through 180 degrees where necessary.
