Abstract
1533619 Gas filter KERNFORSCHUNGSZENTRUM KARLSRUHE GmbH 8 March 1976 [7 March 1975] 09151/76 Heading BIT A downward flow sand bed filter for removing solids from gas comprises layers 1a-2c whose average grain sizes diminish in the direction of flow. Layer 3 comprises relatively coarse grains to act as a support layer and is itself supported by screen 7. In a filter designed for an approach flow velocity of 2 cm/sec, layers 1a to 2c have grain diameters of >2.9, 2.9, 1.52, >0.37 and 0.37 mms respectively, with corresponding layer thicknesses of 5-17: 10-20, 4.5-9, >16 and >3 cms. Weights of sand per unit area in each layer are also given. Layer 2c is omitted for an approach flow velocity of 2 to 5 cm/sec. The filter is intended to remove sodium oxide from gas released by malfunctioning of a sodium-cooled nuclear reactor.
