Abstract

1530202 Aminoglycosides PFIZER Ltd 14 June 1977 [16 June 1976 28 Sept 1976 8 Dec 1976] 24989/76 40145/76 and 51294/76 Addition to 1530201 Heading C2C Novel aminoglycosides of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a C 3-7 primary alkyl group, at least two carbon atoms (other than that attached to the amino group) bearing a hydroxyl group, or a C 3-7 secondary alkyl group, at least one carbon atom (other than that attached to the amino group) bearing a hydroxyl group; R<SP>2</SP> is an amino or hydroxyl group; each R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen atom or hydroxyl group; R<SP>4</SP> is a hydrogen atom or methyl group; one of R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> is a hydrogen atom and the other is a hexopyranosyl group containing at least two hydroxyl groups (R<SP>6</SP>) or a pentofuranosyl group optionally linked to a further hexopyranosyl group by a further glycosidic linkage (R<SP>5</SP>); R<SP>7</SP> is a hydrogen atom or C 1-4 alkyl group; and the dotted line is an optional second bond when each R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogent atom, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by alkylating a compound of the general formula wherein one or more of the free amino groups, other than the 1-amino group, is optionally protected, and removing the amino-protecting groups, if present. They can be incorporated in pharmaceutical compositions as antibacterial agents.
