Abstract

1529818 1,2,4 - Triazole derivatives IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Nov 1976 [3 Dec 1975 16 Nov 1976] 49656/75 and 47666/76 Heading C2C Novel 1,2,4-triazole derivatives of the formula: wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are independently hydrogen or optionally substituted hydrocarbyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen, nitro, alkyl, alkoxy or optionally substituted amino, n is an integer of 1 to 5; each of the Y groups may be the same or different when n is greater than 1, provided that Y is other than hydrogen or halogen when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are both hydrogen; or a salt or metal complex thereof, are prepared by reacting a compound of the formula: either with a reducing agent such as LiAlH 4 or sodium borohydride in an inert solvent, or with a Grignard reagent. The novel compounds possess fungicidal properties. The starting materials of Formula II above may be prepared by reacting 1,2,4-triazole or a salt thereof with an α-haloketone of the formula: wherein X is halogen. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,464,224.
