Abstract

1529734 Bookbinding J E THOMPSON 1 Dec 1975 49310/75 Heading B6A A stack 14 is moved along a guide 15 to a rounding trough 18 by pushers 16 and is then clamped by grippers 6 and passed with its spine in contact with rollers, the axes of which extend parallel to the direction of stack travel and which brush the spine outwardly from its centre to form shoulders. The rollers are mounted on carriages, e.g. 20, reciprocable along rods 21, and are rotated and moved arcuately to form the shoulders. They may also apply glue. Applying back linings; Casing in; Jacketing. After rounding, backing and glueing, a hot-melt adhesive layer is applied to the spine by a grooved roller. A scraper controls the length of applied adhesive. Further heated scrapers remove surplus adhesive and a strip of lining cloth is then applied followed by a cover and jacket.
