1529564 Pharmaceutical compositions A LAWSON and A F AL-SAYYAB 22 April 1975 [1 May 1974] 19157/74 Heading A5B A pharmaceutical composition comprises a diluent or carrier and a compound of the formula: in which R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are the same or are different and each is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a hydroxy or lower alkoxy group (provided that neither of R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> is a lower alkoxy group when R' is a lower alkyl group), or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are attached to adjacent carbon atoms of benzene nucleus A and together represent a carbocyclic ring fused to benzene nucleus A; R<SP>4</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl, phenyllower alkyl, phenyl, hydroxy phenyl or lower alkoxy phenyl group; R<SP>5</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or hydroxy lower alkyl group; R<SP>6</SP> is a methylene, hydroxymethylene or mercaptomethylene group or is absent; R<SP>7</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, lower alkyl-thiolower alkyl, or amino-lower alkyl, or an aryl or heterocyclic group selected from phenyl, lower alkyl-phenyl, lower alkoxy-phenyl, halophenyl, nitrophenyl, cyanophenyl, methylenedioxyphenyl, pyridyl, imidazolyl, indolyl and morpholyl groups, or a lower alkyl group substituted with such an aryl or heterocyclic group, or a group of the formula: (in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> have the meanings defined above and R<SP>8</SP> is a lower alkylene group), and X is an oxygen or sulphur atom; the term "lower" as applied to an alkyl, alkylene or alkoxy group indicating that it contains from 1 to 6 carbon atoms). The compositions may also contain hydrocortisone.
