Abstract
1529409 Solar cells A A DORMIDONTOV E M ZYKOV T A LITSENKO B A NIKITIN V I POLYAKOV D S STREBKOV V A UNISHKOV and V V CHERNYSHEV 1 March 1977 08636/77 Heading H1K In a semi-conductor photoelectric generator radiant energy 4 is focused by an optical arrangement 2 on to at least one conversion device 1 comprising a rectifying junction 8 separating a base region 6 from a region 7 of opposite type, the radiation being concentrated on an absorption band 14 in the base region at a distance from the junction 8 which is smaller than the diffusion length of the minority carriers in the base region 6. As shown, for a plurality of conversion devices, the individual semi-conductor bodies are connected by electrodes 10, 11 and the optical arrangement comprises a series of prismatic rods 12 attached to the operative surface 3 by transparent adhesive 5. In other refractive arrangements, the rods 12 are replaced by cylindrical or spherical members. Alternatively, the optical system comprises an array of parabolic or cylindrical-parabolic reflectors (Figs. 6-9, not shown). The PN junction may lie parallel to the operative surface in one of these arrangements.
