Abstract
1527464 Orthoalkylation of phenols GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 4 Feb 1977 [5 Feb 1976] 4567/77 Heading C2C A process for the ortho-alkylation of a phenolic compound of formula wherein each R is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or alkaryl, comprises reacting said phenolic compound in the vapourphase with a (C 1-12 ) alkanol in the presence of a catalyst comprising CaO or CaO and CaCO 3 at a temperature of from 280 to 350‹ C. and a pressure of up to 10 atmospheres gauge.
