Abstract
1525471 Removing solids and liquids from oils G R PRIEST 29 Aug 1975 35702/75 Headings B1B and B1D An apparatus for removing solids and liquids from oil comprises a casing 11 constituted by a body 11 and removable top 25, a filter 12 (e.g. of cotton) a vapourisation plate 13, heating means 14, oil inlet 15, oil outlet 20 and vapour outlet 21 provided with a spring loaded float valve 162. The plate 12 comprises concentric tiers some of which have an annular channel such as 103b, and circumferentially spaced capillaries 102 around its periphery. The heating means 14 may be an electric heater (as shown) or may use the hot exhaust gas from an I.C. engine. In use the apparatus may be connected to the lubrication system of an I.C. engine. The oil mixture introduced through inlet 15 is filtered and then passed through capillaries 102 and cups 101 whereby the mixture is deemulsified. The volatile components are evaporated as the mixture cascades over the tiers of plate 12 and the vapours are exhausted through outlet 21 to the intake of the engine. The purified oil is discharged through outlet 20 to the oil pan of the engine. Valve 162 closes the outlet 21 if the liquid level in chamber 120 reaches an undesired level.
