Abstract
1524781 Hydrocarbons INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION 24 Jan 1977 [24 Jan 1976] 02803/77 Heading C5E Ester-containing vegetable oils are converted into one or more hydrocarbons by pyrolysis at 300‹ to 700‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst which comprises silica-alumina in admixture with an oxide of a transition metal of Groups IIA, IIIA, IVA,VA,VIA,VIIA or VIII of the periodic table, preferably in a fluidized bed, moving bed or fixed bed tubular reactor at atmospheric pressure. Separation of the gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons may then take place. Exemplified metal oxides contained in the catalysts are the oxides of titanium, zirconium, molybdenum, platinum, chromium, nickel, magnesium, vanadium and cerium. The vegetable oil may be rubber seed oil. Mahua oil, Karanja oil, Sal oil, Punna oil, ground nut oil, sesame oil or castor oil. The resulting product is substantially free from oxygenated compounds other than carbon dioxide and water.
