Abstract

1524268 Steam or vapour engine D-CYCLE ASSOCIATES 20 Oct 1976 43592/76 Heading F1M A Stirling cycle type vapour power generating means comprises (a) means 14 for directing a heated heat exchange fluid externally about a hot end 12a to 12c of a cylinder of a Stirling cycle type vapour engine and means for directing the heat exchange fluid in indirect heat exchange with a condensible working fluid within the cylinder (b) means 40, 44, 48 for directing heated vapour of the working fluid from a hot cylinder space through a heat exchanger 42, 46, 50 (c) means 38 for condensing a portion of the vapour after it has passed through the heat exchanger (d) means 52a, 52b, 52c for directing the remaining portion of the vapour to a cold cylinder space 22a, 22b, 22c of the engine and (e) means 30, 32a, 32b, 32c, for injecting a liquid of the working fluid in an amount equal to, greater than or less than the portion of the working fluid condensed in the condenser means, during and/or before compression of the vapour in the cold cylinder space. As particularly described the engine is a steam engine. As shown the heat exchange medium is heated to a high temperature by an external combustion heater 16. The heated fluid passes through a conduit 18 to the interior of a jacket 14 and the fluid returns to the heater 16 via a conduit 20. The upper portions of the cylinders and pistons may be tapered.
