Abstract

1523329 Hoppers GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 17 Nov 1975 47298/75 Heading B8S A pressure hopper 2, for holding a highly viscous fluid 24 under pressure, comprises a hollow body 12 having a flange 18 about its upper rim, a removable lid 14 which is releasably attached to the body 12 by means of a pair of toggle joint clamps 16, and capacitive sensing means for controlling the flow of fluid into the hopper 2 through a supply line 4 to maintain the level 30 of the fluid 24 within a predetermined range, a discharge line 8 being provided for the discharge of the fluid 24 from the hopper 2. Toggle joint clamps.-Each clamp 16 comprises a fixed jaw 36 in the form of a V-shaped bracket attached to a flange 20 provided on the lid 14, a movable clamp jaw 34 being pivotally attached at 40 to the jaw 36, an operating handle 32 being pivotally attached at 44 to the jaw 34 and pivotally attached to a link 50 which is pivotally attached at 38 to the jaw 36. Capacitive sensing means.-A single plate capacitor sensor 66 is suspended in the hopper body 12 by an insulated support electrode 64, and when the level of the fluid 24 changes the resultant changes in the capacitance between the plate 66 and fluid 24 are transmitted by the electrode 64 to a control device 72 which operates a motor driven valve 6 in the supply line 4 to the hopper 2.
