Abstract

1522628 Moisture curable elastomers containing conjugated olefinic unsaturation EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 8 Sept 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 36826/75 Heading C3P An elastomeric polymer containing random sites of conjugated olefinic unsaturation is reacted under anhydrous conditions with an unsaturated anhydride and rendered moisture curable by blending it with an oxide, hydroxide or alkoxide of a polyvalent metal other than an oxide Ti<+4> or Al<+3> and optionally a basic hydrolysis catalyst. In the examples conjugated diene butyl rubber prepared by dehydrohalogenation of chlorinated butyl rubber is reacted with maleic anhydride and moisture cured in the presence of ZnO alone or in admixture with pyridine or tetramethylazobicyclooctane.
