Abstract
1521964 Ion selective electrode NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 1 Sept 1975 [4 Sept 1974] 38748/74 Heading G1N An ion selective electrode comprises a first member 10 of a material containing the cation to be measured, a second member 11, contacting the first member and comprising an electrically conductive material which contains the cation to be measured and which allows interactions requiring the supply of electrons with the cation to take place internally or at the first and second member interface, means 13, 15 for electrically contacting the second material and means 17 allowing the first member but not the second member to contact the electrolyte. The second member preferably comprises a non- stoichiometric material and may be a mercury amalgam or a tungsten bronze, many examples being given. The first member may comprise a beta alumina, many examples being given. The cation may be a cation of Na, K, Li, Rb, Co, T1, Ag, Cu, NO, Ga, Cs, NH4 or In.
