Abstract
1521215 Spray-producers NIPPON OIL CO Ltd 21 April 1976 [17 July 1975] 16072/76 Heading B2F [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for atomizing oil, for example lubricating oil, comprises an oil tank 3, a housing 15 mounted on top of the tank and having a Venturi constriction 2 therein, a nozzle 10 mounted in the housing and having an outlet opening into the throat of the Venturi, the axis of said nozzle being perpendicular to that of the Venturi, a heating chamber 7 attached to the housing 15 and disposed upstream of the nozzle, and a conduit 5 for supplying oil from the tank 3 to the chamber 7 and thence to the nozzle 10. In use, air is supplied through a pipe 1 into the Venturi 2 and causes oil to be sucked up through a filter 4 and the conduit 5 into the chamber 7, where it is heated by a heating element 8 extending into the body of the nozzle, and thence to the nozzle where the oil is atomized by the air stream passing across the outlet of the nozzle. The resulting oil mist enters the upper part of the tank and is discharged through an outlet 12; any large droplets adhere to a perforated baffle plate 11 and drip back into the tank. The rate of flow of oil to the chamber 7 is controlled by a manually adjustable valve 6 and the temperature in the chamber is measured and controlled by a thermo-electric thermometer 9. If the oil is so viscous that a sufficient flow rate to the chamber cannot be obtained, the oil in the tank 3 may be preheated by a heating element 13. The chamber 7 and the nozzle 10 are preferably constructed of a material having a low thermal conductivity such as foam resin or foam glass.
