Abstract

1520955 Reinforcement cables SAIAG SpA INDUSTRIA ARTICOLI GOMMA 26 Aug 1976 [25 May 1976] 35596/76 Heading D1T [Also in Division B5] A helically twisted steel cable 12, shown as being used for the reinforcement of a rubber article 10, comprises at least three helically twisted bare strands 14, 16, 18 identical to one another, each strand constituted by a number of bare steel wires 20, is characterised in that the strands 14, 16, 18 are twisted around a continuous extruded core 22 of yieldable polymeric material having an extruded transverse section in the shape of a regular star with at least three arms, each arm being of substantially constant thickness and extending radially between two consecutive strands to an extent sufficient to prevent contact between the strands, the star being gripped between these strands by the twist given to the cable. The following materials are suggested for the core 20; polyamide resins; acetal copolymers; polyolefine; thermoplastic polyesters; polyvinylidene fluoride; polybutadienes; polyurethanes; silicone rubbers; styrene-butadiene thermoplastic elastomers; and copolymers of ethylene with polytetrafluoroethylene. A rubber conveyor belt may be longitudinally reinforced with a number of these cables.
