1520576 Isotope exchange COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 17 March 1976 [4 April 1975] 10676/76 Heading C1A In a dual-temperature isotope exchange process, the cold exit gas from the cold tower is passed into a first and then into a second direct-contact heat exchanger; in the first it is contacted with hot liquid in the main liquid circuit, and in the second it is contacted with a mixture of hot liquid from the hot tower, and hot liquid in an auxiliary circuit that has been heated by indirect exchange with hot gas leaving the hot tower; between the second and the first direct-contact heat-exchangers the hot liquid is divided to give the auxiliary circuit flow and the main liquid circuit flow. Suitable apparatus is also claimed. The exemplified process is the production of D- rich hydrogen using a liquid amine carrying a dissolved catalyst, e.g. methylaminetrimethylamine with potassium methylamide as catalyst.
