Abstract
1519141 Protecting inverters COMMUNICATIONS PATENTS Ltd 8 July 1975 [3 May 1974] 19662/74 Heading H2F A switching system comprises a plurality of semi-conductor switches 4, 5 arranged to be operated sequentially by a series of "on" and "off" command signals, means 3 for providing a delay interval between the "off" comand to any one switch and the "on" command to the next switch in sequence, and means 7 for detecting simultaneous conduction of both or successive switches in the sequence to cause an an increase in the duration of the delay interval. The "on" and "off" command signals C, D are provided by a logic circuit 2 which receives signals A and B from a switching signal generator 1 and a pulse generator 3, the signal B determining the delay interval tm. Should the switches 4, 5 conduct simultaneously the device 7 provides an output voltage on line 8 to generator 3 which is proportional in magnitude to the magnitude of the simultaneous current in switches 4, 5. A reference voltage from a generator 9 is also applied to generator 3, the delay time being determined by the amplitude of the voltage on line 8 relative to the reference voltage (which may be zero). The generator 3 may be programmed to maintain the delay interval between predetermined upper and lower limits. The arrangement shown acts as a D.C. to A.C. converter with a D.C. source 10 and a load 6. The D.C. source may be amplitude modulated and the generator 1 may be frequency or phase modulated. The detecting device 7 may comprise a filtering means having a fast response time but a long decay time, and the device 7 may control protective devices.
