1518905 Finishing fabrics IVANOV N I EXPERIMENTAL KONSTRUKT MASHINOSTROITEL INST 21 May 1976 21155/76 Heading D1S Fabric decatizing apparatus comprises a rotatable perforated cylindrical drum 3 against a portion of the surface 4 of which a fabric 1 is pressed by an endless air-permeable sheet 2, the drum 3 and the sheet 2 being partially accommodated in a steam chamber 7, and the sheet 2 being arranged to be withdrawn from the drum surface 4 before the fabric 1 leaves the drum. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the drum surface 4 is covered by an air-permeable sheet 5 and the drum 3 contains a pipe 6 connected to a suction source. Tension-eliminating rolls 12 guide the fabric onto the surface 4 and rolls 8, 10 hold it in contact therewith over an arc L 1 +L 2 +L 3 . Rolls 9, 11 guide the endless sheet 2 into contact with the surface 4 over an arc L 1 , the position of the roll 11 being adjustable by a mechanism 16. The sheet 2 passes around a centering roll 13 and a tensioning roll 14. The steam chamber 7 covers the arc L 2 and part of the arc L 1 . In operation, before the sheet 2 exerts pressure on the fabric 1, the fabric is heated and wetted by filtration heating over the arc L 2 : With the sheet 2 applying pressure, the fabric 1 is heated over the first part of the arc L 1 and, when it leaves the chamber 7, it is cooled over the second part of the arc L 1 . After the sheet 2 has left the surface 4, air is passed through the fabric 1 for further air filtration cooling thereof over the arc L 3 . The fabric is folded by a piler 15. In another embodiment ,Fig. 2, the rolls 8, 9 are disposed in the steam chamber 7 and the roll 8 comprises a perforated suction cylinder 17 over an arc L 4 of which the fabric 1 is heated by steam filtration before pressure is applied by the sheet 2. Additionally, filtration cooling of the sheet 2 is effected by its passage around a perforated suction cylinder 18. In a further emodiment, Fig. 3, (not shown) in addition to the cylinders (17), (18), the roll 10 comprises a perforated suction cylinder (19) to provide additional filtration cooling of the fabric (1) over an arc (L 5 ). In yet another embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), in addition to the cylinders (17), (18), after the fabric (1) has passed around the roll (10) it passes around a perforated suction cylinder (20) to provide additional filtration cooling over an arc (L 5 ). The fabric may be woollen or silk, woven or knitted.
