Abstract

1518648 Hard shears MATSUZAKA IRON WORKS Inc 14 April 1977 [11 Dec 1976] 15568/77 Heading B4B A shearing tool for shearing, e.g.: plastics pipes, comprises a blade 8 pivotally connected to a first handle 1 and adapted to enter an opening 4<SP>1</SP> in a jaw member 4 fixed to a second handle 5, a rocking bar 16 being pivotally connected at one end to the second handle and at its other end to the blade so that when the handles are moved together, the blade is urged towards the jaw member, the handles being normally urged apart by a spring 7. The-bar 16 is provided with a pin 17 adapted to move in a slot 14 formed in the blade, the dot being provided with notches 13. In operation, the pressure on the handles is maintained substantially constant by means of the pin 17 being engaged with different notches. In a modification, Fig. 8A (not shown), notches are formed on a rocking bar (13) the notches being adapted to engage with a pawl 7 formed on the blade 8.
