Abstract

1518342 Corrosion inhibitor RHEINCHEMIE RHEINAU GmbH 23 May 1975 [20 June 1974] 22657/75 Heading C7E [Also in Division C5] A corrosion inhibitor for metals for addition to a lubricant consists of a solution of benzotriazole and/or tetrahydrobenzotriazole in a solvent chosen from (1) an amine salt of a carboxylic acid (2) an amine salt of a phosphoric acid (3) a phosphoric acid trialkyl ester and/or (4) an amine alkyl benzene sulphonate, and optionally also contains a free amine, a free carboxylic acid, free phosphoric acid or a mono-or di-ester of phosphoric acid. The acid in (1) may be an aliphatic C 6 -C 18 mono-carboxylic acid, e.g. capric, caproic, i-nonanic, i-palmitic or oleic and the amine n-hexyl, t-octyl, t-isotetradecyl, oleyl, dicyclohexyl-amine or aniline. In (2), the amine may be the same, the acid H 3 PO 4 or its mono- or di-alkyl esters, e.g. mono-butyl-, di-butyl-, di-2-ethylhexyl or mono-octadecenyl-phosphate. Compound (3) may be tri-butyl-, tri-2-ethylhexyl-, tridodecyl- or dibutyl 2-ethylhexyl-phosphate; (4) may be a salt of an amine as in (1) above with an alkylbenzene sulphonic acid having 1-18C atoms in the alkyl group. The triazole is present in amount 0À01-0À1 wt. per cent in the lubricant, which may be a mineral oil on a paraffin, naphthenic, aromatic or mixed basis, and/or a synthesis oil, e.g. an ester oil or alkyl benzene, or a lubricating grease, and inhibits corrosion of Cu in contact with the lubricant.
