Abstract

1518283 Lubricant OROBIS LTD 1 Sept 1975 38184/74 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] A lubricant composition comprises a major proportion of a lubricant base oil and a minor proportion of the reaction product obtained by reacting a sulphurized alkyl phenol of the formula:- wherein R is a C 6 -C 30 alkyl wherein 95 to 60 number per cent of the alkyl groups are straight chain alkyl groups, n is 1, 2 or 3, m is 0, 1 or 2, and the weight per cent of S is from 0À1 to 15, with an aldehyde of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1 -C 6 alkyl, and (a) a polyamine of the formula wherein X is C 2 -C 6 alkylene and n<SP>1</SP> is an integer from 1 to 10; (b) an amine of the formula wherein R<SP>2</SP> is C 1 -C 6 alkyl or phenyl and R<SP>3</SP> is H, C 1 -C 6 alkyl or phenyl; or (c) a Mannich condensation product formed by the reaction of a (C 1 -C 30 ) alkyl phenol with an aldehyde of the formula R'CHO and a polyamine of Formula III or an amine of Formula IV, or the alkaline-earth salt of that reaction product. The lubricant base oil may be a mineral oil derived from petroleum or a synethetic oil based, for example, on esters. The composition may contain other additives.
