Abstract

1517571 Determining profile photoelectrically CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES - CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 2 July 1975 [2 July 1974] 27821/75 Heading G1A Two rotating mirrors, 13, 19, Figs. 3a, 3b are used to synchronously scan a spot of light and the field of view of a detector or detectors across an object along a predetermined line to determine the object's profile; the co-ordinates of points on the object are determined from the angle of the mirrors and the position at which the beam reflected from the object strikes the detectors. Instead of the scanning spot, the object may be illuminated by a planar light beam, and the field of view of the detectors may be scanned along the intersection of that beam and the object. The planar beam may be spatially modulated. When a scanning spot is used, the detector field of view need not be scanned if the detector is a series of diodes associated with a cylindrical lens, or is a two dimensional array of diodes.
