Abstract

1517561 Fluid-pressure actuators AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS Ltd 28 April 1976 [29 April 1975] 17806/75 Heading F1D In a fluid-pressure actuator, Fig. 1, a relief valve 10 is provided in a by-pass 12, 9, and the arrangement is such that the valve only opens if movement of the piston is interrupted before completion of a working stroke. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, the by-pass comprises passages 21, 22, 23, 24. Passage 23 is provided in a sleeve 18 which closes the by-pass at the end of a working stroke. To adjust the end of the stroke position for wear in the linkages to which the actuator is connected, a manually operable threaded rod 25 is provided which bears on the sleeve 18 through a spring 30. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, axially movable sleeves 32, 33 are held against stop-rings 38, 37 by springs 34, 36. The by-pass passage includes an annular groove 40 and radial drillings 41 in the inner sleeve 32. The drillings 41 are uncovered by the outer sleeve 33 until the latter engages an abutment at the end of a working stroke. Wear is automatically compensated by a series of grooves 39, one of which houses the ring 38 which retains the sleeve 32. This ring progressively moves to the left from groove to groove when the ring contacts an abutment at the end of a working stroke as wear becomes greater.
