Abstract

1516410 Coated seeds MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 1 July 1975 [2 July 1974] 27741/75 Heading A2Q Seeds are increased in size to facilitate mechanical planting by coating them with non-porous, hydrophobic, non-phytotoxic particles stuck together with a hydrophilic binder, the binder constituting not more than 10% of the coating, the coated seeds having a porosity characteristic of at least 15% total porosity and at least 12% of the total pore volume being due to the presence of pores having a diameter between 2 and 100 microns. The hydrophobic particles may be of silanized glass or a synthetic resin, e.g. polypropylene, polyethylene or polyester. Binders specified include animal hide glue, polyvinyl alcohol or hydroxypropyl cellulose. A large number of vegetable seeds are specified.
