Abstract
1515793 Flameless reboiler MALONEY-CRAWFORD TANK CORP 2 Aug 1976 32124/76 Heading B1B A reboiler for reconcentrating liquid dessicant, e.g. di- or tri-ethylene glycol used for drying natural gas, through utilization of exhaust gas from a prime mover comprises an upper reboiler drum 12 subdivided by weirs 24, 26 into a central chamber 18, a liquid holding chamber 20 and a water-lean dessicant chamber 22 and a lower chamber 14. The lower chamber 14 is connected to the central chamber 18 of the upper drum 12 by means of a plurality of finned riser tubes 34 passing through the heating section 16 through which flow a hot exhaust gas stream 78. In operation, cool water-rich dessicant is fed via a coil (54 in the top of a distillation column 50 mounted on the upper reboiler thence to a surge tank 58 through a heat exchanger coil 62, and from there to the lower section 56 of column 50 and into the holding chamber 20. From here it flows through conduit 32 to the lower chamber and is circulated up the risers 34 and back down external conduits 40. Water-lean dessicant flows over adjustable weir 26 and via conduit 66 to the surge tank whence it exits at 68 for return to the drying process. Water vapours pass into the distillation column 50. The temperature of the liquid dessicant is controlled by regulating the flow of hot gas stream with a butterfly valve 48 activated by a sensor in the main reboiler section 18.
