Abstract

1515660 Collecting effluent oil from water MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 29 March 1977 [1 April 1976 21 Feb 1977] 13050/77 Heading B1D An apparatus for collecting effluent oil floating on a water surface comprises at least one float 8, a pair of forwardly opening side plates 1 mounted on the float or floats, and plates 2, 3, 4 extending between the side plates 1; the plates 2, 3, 4 being arranged whereby when the apparatus is moved over the water by a vessel oily water enters an intake port 6 between the plates 3, 4 and relatively clean water is discharged through a port 5 between the plates 2, 4. Two pairs of parallel link rods (10a), 10b; 10'a, 10'b are pivoted at their ends to the vessel and to the plates 1 to allow the apparatus to rise and fall when operating in disturbed water. Water jets 14, 15 are used to agitate and break up the oil flowing between the plates 1 into the intake port 6. A check valve 13 or slide valve (32) is used to prevent reverse flow through the water discharge port 5. The plate 2 constitutes a weir over which the oily water flows and this may be composed of two parts, the upper part being adjustable, Figs. 6, 7, 13 and 16 (not shown). In order to dissipate the effects of a large inflow of oily water, part-cylindrical buffer chambers (40) located above the port 6 may be provided.
