1515383 Knitting machines AISIN SEIKI KK 23 May 1975 [24 May 1974 10 June 1974 8 Aug 1974] 22473/75 Heading DIC A hand knitting machine is provided with selecting cams 20' inclined so as to apply components of thrust to needle butts B urging the needles both in the stitch-forming direction and downwards into the needle bed, spring-urged cams ensuring that the latter component prevails unless the needles are prevented from being depressed by corresponding projections on a series of selector plates 30, these plates normally being in needle-engaging positions but being displaceable by half a needle pitch by associated levers 34 which are selectively drivably engageable, under the control of pattern means such as a punched card 46 or tape with a member 50 caused to reciprocate at the points of reversal of the carriage 4 by a link 60 pivotally connected to the needle bed so as to be driven at the points of reversal by a pawl 62 on the carriage, the link suitably operating a rocking member 54 in camming engagement with member 50. The levers 34 are spring 45 urged against the card 46 and depending on whether or not there are holes at the corresponding positions of the card they will either be located in slots in a stationary member 56 or in corresponding slots in member 50 which is subsequently cammed to the (Fig. 9) position to pivot the levers and displace the associated plates 30. The rocking member serves to advance the card 46 by a ratchet device. The control provided by the card 46 may be supplemented by manual pushbuttons in camming engagement with plates which engage in turn transmitting members acting on the levers 34.
