Abstract

1514731 Vehicle roof operating mechanism EDWARD ROSE (BIRMINGHAM) Ltd 13 May 1975 [13 Feb 1974] 6554/74 Heading E2M [Also in Division B7] An opening roof assembly for a motor vehicle comprises a support member 10 slidable in guides 12 along opposed sides of an opening in a vehicle roof, a closure member 13 movably mounted on said support member and operating means 16 for lifting and lowering said closure member relative to the support member between a raised position in which the closure member is clear of the roof to permit opening and closing of the assembly and a lowered position in which the closure member is pressed against the vehicle roof to lock the assembly in position. A collapsible cover is attached to the vehicle roof at one end and to the closure member at the other end. Alternatively the closure member is extended to form a flat sliding roof. The closure member 13 is mounted on the support member 10 by spaced operating means 16. The latter consist of rotatable screw members 28 mounted on the support member 10, which cooperate with threaded sleeves 29 contained in housings 30 on the closure member. The screw members 28 are rotated by toothed belts 33, 36 driven by a central actuating means 15. Said actuating means includes a latch engageable with a latch plate on the vehicle roof. The support member 10 has adjustable side members 11 for engaging in vehicle slide guides 12.
