Abstract

The fine grinding of cellulose and/or ether derivatives thereof is carried out on a vibrating mill in the presence of entrained or externally supplied water and in the presence of air. Grinding continues until the particle size of the predominant proportion of the product is not more than 100 mu and the residual water content is from 2 to 10% by weight. This process permits explosion-safe and gentle fine grinding in a single pass. It is used in particular for fine grinding cellulose ethers used in the building industry as binders, for example in renders.
